Yellow drama, yes. Today’s tour was the team time trial. In a sport where the poetry tends to be found in the sunflowers that line the roads and the tales of past glories, the team time trial is a study in the beautiful combination of grace and power. You have to watch to understand, I suppose, but the sight of a well-formed paceline of 9 guys racing for mere seconds, perfectly rotating their turns in front, that’s one my favorite things to watch.
Yeah, can’t wait to watch it.
So at ten to 11 Dad called me down to his office and tried to turn on the live audio feed for the Tour. He’s got the official website open, but is at a loss as to where the live feed button ran off to in the last year. He emailed Adam hoping he’d know, and in the meantime we checked the current standings. T-Mobile, CSC, and Discovery are the three to watch, with them starting 5th, 2nd, and 1st from the end. (Fastest starts last) T-mobile went through the finish with the fastest time yet, giving both Ullirch and Vinokourov (big rivals, both on T-mobile) a good place to stand with reference to Armstrong. Liberty-Segurious was also in fast, right behind T-mobile, so Heras and Beloki are doing well also.
Eventually we managed to get the live feed that Adam found to work, though it took quite some time, and tried to get used to hearing the Tour narrated by someone other than Phil and Paul. In a few minutes Discover clocked in the fastest time, 34 seconds ahead of T-mobile. Only CSC was left on the course. At the start of the day Dave Zabriskie from CSC was in the lead of the race by 2 seconds over Armstrong. They had to finish within two seconds of Discovery to keep the yellow, so needless to say tensions ran high. With under 2k to go they looked good, and then suddenly there was a shout from the announcers: Zabriskie had gone down! His team finished two seconds behind Discovery, but as he was a little ways behind his teammates he lost the yellow and slid back to ninth. Yes, Armstrong is BACK in YELLOW! The question being, will he decide to keep it?

Okay some background. For those of you who don’t know me at all and have been living in a hole, the Tour de France is a bike race. For those who do know me but still have been living in a hole, Lance Armsrong is going for his seventh win. No one else as ever won more than five. BIG stuff.
It started off Saturday with a prologue time trial. Dave Zabriskie suprised everyone with a first place finish, two seconds faster than Armstrong, who slipped off his pedal in the opening strokes, possible costing him the stage. Vinokourov was third, 53 seconds back, with Ullrich dissappoingly finishing out of the top ten.
Stage two was a typical flat stage, with a breakaway early on that got caught, and a sprint finish. Tom Boonen won. I was in Ann Arbor and didn’t get to watch this one, much to my dismay, but if you’re gonna miss a stage, I suppose that’s one to miss. The big names all finished in the Peleton, thus keeping the status quo.
Stage three I actually manage to see. It was an exciting finish as the breakaway that included the Dutchie Eric Dekker nearly managed to stay away, getting caught by the peleton with less than 3k to go. This left just barely enough time for the sprint teams to get set up for the finish. In a truely dramatic fashion Boonen once again won the stage, coming from about 15th place early on in the sprint for the win. Also notable was the action McEwan took when he got desperate just yards before the line. To try and get a better line he head-butted O’Grady. You have to see a sprint finish to understand how dangerous this is. Spectators tend to hold their breaths and pray that the riders will stay upright when each keeps in his own space. It was scary to watch the two of them sprint and yet still struggle to hold their bikes up. At the end of the day, McEwan got put in last for the peleton, and everyone kept their skin, so it’s all good. And that’s it for the tour for today. More tomorrow, when we watch yet-another-long-flat-stage.

I have to say, it’s impressive to drive into a place with
I had to drop off a proof to Wacker today. Cindy called around all morning trying to figure out where it was supposed to go, as the Wacker plant site is frickin’ huge. Eventually she said she got it, and gave me directions. “Just drive up to the guard house, it’ll be the only gate that’s open, and leave it there. Doreen will come and pick it up.” 0.0 Guard house? It’s odd to remember that behind the cheery graveyard-style black fence that rings the area, Wacker is a plant protected both for the safety of it’s secrets and the safety of outsiders.

Yin, dangit, stay out of my dreams! Night before last we got into a fight about your pink shirt….in a semi-truck. Seriously, I mean it, go away! (And my interpretation is that I’m feeling guiltier than usual about teasing you about pink-type things…so SORRY! Don’t know why we were in a truck though…)

    You are an inspiration
I’m watching the Tour de France right now!
… sort of. Team Discovery is stretching. :-/
    Wait, wait… DUDE
A team clad in all white with four-leaf clovers on their shoulders! No idea who they are, but their uniforms are vaguely freaky.
    Yeah… watching.
P.S. – Brushed your teeth while on the phone. *shakes head sadly*

I have no idea why….or how i got started on this…but yes. The Tour de Pants. Although, the pants those guys wear…arn’t really pants. they are skinny little stretch armstrong pants. hehehe…stretch armstrong.
    SO YEAH!
It’s alot closer this year for some reason…but i hope he wins. Give my sister some inspiration. I havn’t been watching it…but we don’t have cable out here…so we won’t be.
Now…i think i’ll try one of my first “Polls” thingies in my LJ….never have done that before.
I have got to do it quick before May boots me off…
    Thanks for the poll, marie!

    Fasso-Bortolo (sp?)
That’s who’s wearing the clovers, or so Dad says, and he knows all so he must be right. As for a freaky uniform…you should have seen what Cippolinni (only THE most stylish bike rider since the French stopped winning) had to wear one year: zebra stripes. The WHOLE uniform was zebra stripes. It was a tragedy to see him in them…

    Re: Tour de Pants!
*laughs* it’s closer ’cause we’re only in the opening stages. Give it time to get to the mountains, and watch most of the riders crack. I’m honestly very suprised to see Armstrong in yellow this early, and defending it.

yes that it is. and that song seems to be staying there…but I don’t mind.
